Two weeks ago, I had originally listed this dresser for $200. I know how much this piece is worth and I wasn't going to budge. But all I kept getting were low-ball offers.
Then Chip sold his guitar stuff and we were just $115 short of our goal. We were so close....I couldn't stand it! So I decided to re-list the dresser.
Same dresser, same wording in the ad and same set of pictures. But this time I ask $215 for the dresser...$15 MORE than the original asking price. And it sold!
Within 30 minutes of listing the dresser we had three serious buyers. It was sold and picked up within 2 hours of me posting the ad.
It's funny how psychological numbers can become to us. $200 sounds like a lot more than $150 but when you we see the number $215 we automatically connect it with being lower than $250...thus a good deal!
I know first-hand how intimidating numbers can become. I remember when we had over $50,000 worth of medical debt to pay off and to say we felt over-whelmed is an understatement. But then we did Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace class and we began to pay off the smallest bills first. By breaking down the large "out of reach" number our debt felt more managable and less intimidating.
And now we are at it again...staring at a large number wondering how we will be ever be able to come up with the cash. And I have to admit...I am a bit intimidated.
Our next goal is $10,000 (needed to be placed on the waiting list). Thanks for your prayers and encouragement, we will keep you posted!
