The Ultimate Story

"Story," it's what we are all writing about over at Five Minute Friday.  You should join in…everyone's doing it!

He grabs the basket and pulls it off the shelf.  His endearingly chubby hands fingering through the thick pieces of cardboard.  With much enthusiasm, as only a toddler boy can, he takes each and every book out of the basket by way of throwing them over his shoulder.

The task master in me wants to run over, clean them up and tell him not to make a mess.

Sitting down, feet straight out in front of him, he pages through the beloved well worn pages of a story about a Polar Bear and his animal friends. Squealing with delight when he turns the page to the one about a red bird because this….this is the animal he has learned to recognize in his own yard.

A story about animals, pure bliss to this wee one.

Later that afternoon, when the house is quiet and the small one is napping, she asks me to read her a story. And not just any story but the story we have read over and over and over again.  A story about a little girl name Laura growing up in a little house on the prarie.

Not again, I think.  Can't we read a new story?  But then I remember that I am the one who encourages them to read.  Then I remember that my kids love to read the same stories again and again because their hearts were meant to seek out the ultimate story.

God has written a deep desire for story on all of our hearts and he has chosen to speak to us through story.  The story of his son, the story that never tires and never gets dull.

  3. Great FMF post! I remember my oldest ALWAYS had books strewn about the floor. Some days it took everything in me to see beyond the mess and enjoy her love for these precious books. Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)
