Calling all you crafty gals! Don't you love this cork board that my friend Jenn made? I thought you would. So because I am always thinking of others!!!, I made her explain to me how she did it. And get this...because there is no (well, just a little) glue used, I think I could actually do this.
She started with a plain cork board from Hobby Lobby. Don't forget to use your 40% off coupon. Never, ever walk in the doors without your coupon, in fact, I usually take two just in case I lose one...it happens! (Note: this week cork boards are 50% off, so don't ask to use your 40% off, that would be silly)Ok, here is how you can make a custom cork board:
1. Go to Hobby Lobby - see above
2. Paint the cork part. Prime it first and then paint it. Why prime it? I have no idea, because Jenn says so and I don't do crafts and she does.
3. Purchase a vinyl monogram thingy HERE
4. Go back to Hobby Lobby (or if you are really organized just pick them up at the same time you get the cork board) and buy some cute flowers in the scrapbook section
5. GLUE the flowers to some thumb tacks and voila, you are done!
Total Cost: about $30Compare to $89 at Ballard (which doesn't include cute push pins ($24 extra) and no custom color, in fact they really look nothing alike)

Now, remember...I love Ballard Designs. Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways! I would buy everything from there if I could...but I can't, so I won't. Therefore, it makes me feel way better about myself if I talk about how expensive they are!
But just to be fair, let's compare to Pottery Barn Kids and talk about how expensive they are and how theirs aren't even as cute either. ( But...don't get me wrong. I would buy everything from there...if I could!)
Cute, but kinda boring if you ask me. No way would I buy that for $179! Even with a fancy name like the Larkspur Cork board Wow, this is kinda making Ballard look reasonable! And lest you think you might be getting the cut outs to go with your "texas-ish" themed playroom...that is just for looks. It doesn't come with anything, just the plain old cork board with your choice of 3 wood finishes!I think I will make my way over to Hobby Lobby today. That is always a nice little outing when you are sick and your daughter is sick and there is nothing else to do. (maybe not so nice to everyone else that you might infect). Don't worry, I promise to stay at least 5 feet away from you at all times!
Here is my crafty tip for today: Swing by Chick-fil-et and get your 2 1/2 year old a milkshake (they now come in the smaller sizes so you can feel good about portion control). Put said Two year old in the shopping cart and bribe her with said milk shake. Should give you about 30 minutes or so!
Ummm...maybe I should be sick more often. I am getting so much blogging done.
Love, Love, Love this! Thanks, Jenn! If you go to HL, get one for me, too! I also love the milkshake idea. I'm also loving the new blog bling - so snazzy! The towel pics are awesome. They'll be on my Christmas / birthday lists this year. Hope you're feeling better. Send Syd over here for a while so you can "rest".
ReplyDeleteThanks, I think it looks even cuter on Sharee's blog. Love the towels!
ReplyDeleteI heard you speaking on KSBJ whenever that was and just found your site only to find you have sold your business. But that's not the point. The point is, I'm not a blogger because I think I'm entirely too busy chatting my friends up on facebook since that is where they all live. But that's not the point either. The point is, I love the pics I've seen so far and have NOOOO idea how to look at all of your pics but love to make stuff out of nothing especially since I'm a new pastor's wife with 4 girls, teacher to two of them, working from home for a boutique where I live making bows and anything else they will let me get my hands on... oh, yes, did I mention I have NO income other than my bows. LOL I'd love to be able to make something from nothing but need more ideas. I have a classroom to decorate for autumn (at least until the day after Thanksgiving) and then winter is on the way. Also, we have no home right now. We're living in 3 of the rooms behind our church. LOL Fun, fun, fun for my dear husband who is also not employed right now and living 24/7 with 5 women ages 1 to 30 something. Anyhow, do you have a spot on here for just pictures. I love what I've seen so far and don't want to miss something that I might really love. Thanks so much! Carla crownof3jewels@aim.com
ReplyDeleteOh, and before I forget, Thanks for the milkshake tip. I didn't know they started making smaller portions and I'm sure child protective services would frown on us if they were to see our children with that monster shake they have previously been give, right? LOL
