Do you have a favorite room in your house? Of course you do! Maybe the room you love is decorated exactly how you always dreamed it would be or maybe it is still a vision in your head, but we all have that one space in our home that makes us so very happy! (if you don't, you need to work on moving or re-decorating fast!).

Hillary LOVES her formal dining room and living room! It is the one room of her house that is always neat, tidy, perfect, and magazine worthy at all times!

On a side note, my house never seems to look neat and tidy, let alone magazine worthy. Hillary and I like to joke that my house is like a landscaper's own garden. Our theory goes that a landscaper's own garden is always in dis-array because she is busy taking care of designing other people's yards. Just like my house is always disheveled because I get sucked into too many other people's projects. Or at least that is what I like to believe. But a good friend will humor you at all times! Enough about me, this is supposed to be about Hillary's favorite room.
One of her favorite details in the dining room (and mine too) are these oyster plates that she hung on the wall. First of all, who knew what oyster plates were? Not me. But I LOVE the bright colors and I think they add a bit of Wimsey to the room. Apparently two of these plates are super guber expensive and two of them are "thrifty." Can you tell the difference? Me neither.
So back to talking about me! My mom (Foxy Roxy) and I designed with window treatments and pillows. Aren't they so yummy. Goblet pleated panels in the dining room with a fabulous gimp at the top for added texture.
Two different silks for the panels, also adding interest and texture. Pretty much anything made of silk looks amazing. It is the difference between buying a cute white t-shirt at Target and buying a cute white t-shirt at J Crew. They are both white, but one of them is just going to always look better, fit better, accent your positive curves better...you know what I am saying.
Here's the look at the whole thing again. So worth the money!

I love the couch in the formal living room (which really creates one big space with the dining room). The sure fire way to guarantee you get a custom look to any room in your home is using lots of texture and layers. And you do that by using several different fabrics and NO matchy matchy. See how on just the couch alone how many different fabrics there are? They all have slightly different textures and weights. Even the window treatment in the background is yet a different fabric. If you want a room that looks like you just purchased it out of a bag at Target, go for matchy matchy. You want to have a room that looks like it was carefully and masterfully designed? Texture, Texture, Texture!
Like I said, we all have favorite rooms in our homes. One of mine is Sydney's room.

I am in the process of switching it over from a baby's room to a "big girl's" room. But one thing that is staying put is the window treatment. I LOVE it. A zebra laminated shade (best purchase I ever made), a traditional balloon treatment with a hot pink fuzzy cornice at the top.

And you can't really see it well in this picture plus I tried 18 times to upload the picture horizontally and it won't let me!). But the trim is made of the most amazing silk ball fringe. I mean, when Sydney decides she want to paint her walls purple, I will be taking this fringe and using it elsewhere. This fringe would not be found in the t-shirt section of Target, it might be found at Banana Republic or better yet at a boutique store that sells couture!
Even in the midst of transition, Sydney's room remains one of my favorites.
So talented. Wish I could sew. Guess that is what my mom is for. Hope Sydney inherits the talent unlike me.
