What's in Your Closet?

What do you keep in your closet? Do you keep just the usuals...clothes, shoes, purses? Or is your closet like mine, a creative storage area for anything and everything! Take a peek at my Master Bedroom Closet (mom if you are reading this, cover your eyes) What a site to behold! As you can see (or maybe not!)I keep everything in my closet. Clothes, shoes, purses, old cookbooks, housewares ready to be donated to Goodwill, Syd's baby toys, Christmas presents that I already purchased, garage sale finds...you name it, I store it in my closet. And the best part is....I actually get irritated when I can't find something! Almost daily I am searching for my favorite white tank top or favorite zebra flip flops (yes, it is true I have more than one pair). You know what I am talking about, the ones that look good with every summer outfit you own? Yep, I find myself actually wondering how these things disappear! My strategy (as I recently figured out) is to throw everything into one pile, in the middle of the floor. I have actually convinced myself that making one humongous pile will actually save me time because I won't have to take anything out or put anything back! (My wisdom is beyond comprehension isn't it?) Is your closet organized? Is it easy for you to find things? Do you leave everything out in one big pile so that you have to sift through 20 shirts to get to the one you wanted? Am I seriously the only one that has closet issues? If so (which means someone is telling a fib!) then I will own it...all by myself! I have no shame. I have closet issues!
(sorry about the bad quality of pictures in this post)
Or does your closet look more like this one? This is my walk-in closet in my office. I love it! Whenever I need something, I know right where to look. If I am running low on any of my inventory, I can tell immediately and get my supplies re-stocked. Why is the closet so easy to use? Why is it so different than my bedroom closet? Ok, wise cracker...yes it is not as messy. But you know what else? It was organized with purpose! It was put together with a plan and with a goal in mind...to help me get to my supplies with ease and speed! My friend Kelley (you didn't think I did it?) took time out to organize, re-purpose bins, label, sort and purge all of the items in my closet. Now all I have to do is look for the bin labeled with the item I want and voila, my search is over. No more rooting through a bin of white t-shirts only to find the pink chenille I needed all the way at the bottom. Now, it is not perfect. Nothing ever is, but if I waited for my closets to be perfect...well let's just say that I could be waiting a long long time! Doesn't everyone have a pink chandelier hanging in their closet right next to the over-sized ziploc bags that were purchased not because you needed them but because you thought you couldn't live without them? Even with these few imperfections, my fabric closet as I like to call it, is a work of genius and it allows me run my business more efficiently! Are you wondering what my point is? Is this where I am going to show you some inspirational pictures of closets? And maybe tell you about my plan to give my bedroom closet a Makeover? Or better yet, my plan to show you pictures of my newly made-over bedroom closest? Nope, not gonna happen? Why? Cause' I don't want to. Organizing my bedroom closet is just not at the top of my priority list. I have bigger fish to fry. Funner things to do! (not a word but I think it should be) There is a whole world out there that I need to decorate or craft or blog about! But you wanna know what other closet I WILL show you? The closet I am currently re-organizing and giving a complete make-over to (or at least attempting)? My Thought Closet! Yep, did you know that we all have Thought Closets? Do you know what they are? Do you want to see what mine looks like? Check back later this week......

  1. Oh, please don't look in any of my closets, they are awful!

I had a similiar thought about my closet the other day, when I was looking at all the random stuff I've shoved in and piled up in there, I was hoping that no one would ever look in my closet. Then I thought I wonder what I've pushed aside in my heart and mind, hoping no one ever sees it? It caused me to do some reflecting.

Can't wait to hear about what you are learning...
