Yesterday was a milestone in my life, a right of passage shared by tons of friends and strangers alike.
To all the moms out there that just sent their first baby to Kindergarten I wish we could all meet in the back room of La Madeline and boo hoo our eyes out while drowning in chocolate croissants. Anyone?
I mean...it is just WRONG. It's just wrong on so many levels. Where did the time go? How did they get to be so big? What will they do without us? What will I do without them?
Anyone else know what I am saying?
We knew the day would come when they would leave, but never did we think it would come so soon.
And all I have to say is, "She is never going away to college, never getting married....NOTHING, case closed!" Whew, good thing God has at least 13 more years to prepare me.
But since the start of school is inevitable I am so thankful that we are blessed to send Sydney to a Classical Christian School that also happens to be a University Model school.
A University Model school means that she goes to school a couple of days (2 days in our case) and works at home the rest of the days. The parents are considered co-teachers along with the classroom teacher. They are popping up all over the country, and if you have never heard of them, it's worth checking out. I bet there is even one near you!
We wanted to be the primary teachers and influences in our daughter's life. We wanted more time to focus on character training and more time to simply live as a family. And for us, that meant not sending her to a traditional 5 day a week program.
But that is NOT even the best part! What I am most excited about is that we are enrolled at a Classical Christian School. I have so much to say on this topic but not enough space on the screen to write it all down...at least not for tonight anyway. But I will leave you with this:
Two years ago, if you had told me that I would be sending my daughter to a classical christian school (not to mention the fact that I would be homeschooling her part-time) I would have told you that you were certifiably INSANE.
And just so we are clear. I may live in the South but I am really from the North East and North East girls say it like it is. We don't candy coat our words. I would have told you that you had lost your mind and that you needed to get a life. And you being the sweet, gentle friend you are would have wondered why I had my panties all in a ruffle or wad or whatever the saying is. ( Just keeping it real.)
But today, I am happily eating my words (thankfully not my panties) and Classically Educating my daughter!
BTW, here is what else I have been eating lately. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies. Did you hear that people? Chocolate + Peanut Butter + Cookie.
Look for recipe later this week!
