In between...(the topic for this week's 5 Minute Friday)
I stripped the bed clean of a week old pair of sheets. It always feels good to strip the bed bare and wash away the dirt brought in from the kids, the hair from the dog and just that "I am not clean" smell. How is it that sheets can get so filthy?
I move them from the washer to the dryer, racing against the clock. Finish dinner, clean the kitchen, put kids to bed and then finally.....the triumphant moment of pulling the clean sheets out of the dryer.
I am one step closer to my happy place. There is nothing like crawling in between a fresh pair of sheets. Does anyone know what I am saying? Your clean, the bed is clean and somehow it all just makes sense.
In between clean sheets, it's a place of peace and pure bliss.
But being in between is not always a happy place. In fact, in between is often down right frustrating and tiresome. Like a stagnate pond full of muck, being "in between" omits an unbearable odor.
It's the in between of our lives. It's the in between of God calling us out of the dark pit of slavery to the promised land. The land where we will bare much fruit and bring him much glory. But if we aren't careful we can get stuck in the in between. I am stuck in the desert.
But I know now that God doesn't call us out of slavery and bondage if he isn't prepared to put us in the promised land. But obedience to his calling is what moves us from the in between to the land beyond.
I am in the "in between" and have been for the past several years. But lucky for me the first step in any problem is realizing you have a problem. So yeah for me! I know, I know...God is up there shaking his head thinking "This is what I have been trying to show you!"
Today I am thankful for a God that refuses to leave us in the "in between" of his calling us out of darkness into this perfect plan for our lives. And today I am thankful that I have at least 5 more days until the sheets become "not so clean" again.
STOP
Good thoughts here. Though, I wonder sometimes if the point of being "in between" isn't to take note of something we'll need or find useful in our near future? To learn something valuable? Just a few thoughts that came to mind while reading today.
ReplyDeleteHi Bekka,
DeleteI am quite sure that there is always something for us to learn from our time "in the middle" although I don't want to be stuck there for 40 years like the Israelites! haha! Thanks for your thoughts, I love getting to chat about God's word.
Good post. I liked when you said, "obedience to his calling is what moves us from the in between to the land beyond." So true, sometimes the only thing holding us back is being obedient to what He has already said. And we just can't see it ...

DeleteThis really resonates with me: "But obedience to his calling is what moves us from the in between to the land beyond." Thank you for the reminder that we need to move out of my stagnant, stinky place :).
ReplyDeleteEeek obedience can be so difficult sometimes. So glad to know there are others out there who struggle with the same things! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteGreat truths ... and praise God for His faithfulness to finish His work, for "He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it." Blessings to you.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate!
