How to Tackle Shopping for Fabric

Shopping for fabric and accessories can seem very intimidating. But if you break it down into some easy tips and stay focused, you can accomplish anything! Here are Foxy Roxy's Tips on fabric shopping and how to stay focused: (good thing she is writing this blog because we all know that being focused is not a gift of mine...)

1. Start with one project so you don't get overwhelmed. One project meaning; one room, one window, or just pillows for a sofa. The project can be little or small, it doesn't matter. You just don't want to work on more than one project at a time.

2. Try and write down everything you will need before you go to the store. That way you won't forget anything and have to go back. For example, if you want to re-do the pillows on your sofa, you will need pillow forms, fabric and trim. You should also write down how many pillows you would like and what size.

3. Only buy what you are going to use right now on your current project. Just because it is on sale doesn't mean you need it! You probably won't end up using it or you will forget that you have it and find something even better. Just because it is on sale does not mean you should make a rash decision and buy the rest of the bolt...!

4. If you are not sure if a fabric will work for your project, buy a 1/2 of a yard to use as a sample. Fabric changes color and mood depending on the lighting in a room, the color of furniture, etc. Fabric will look one way in a store and another way in your house.

5. Take a friend with you! It is more fun and it is always good to get another opinion. However, you need to take a friend that either has the same taste as you or even better taste! Two heads are better than one.

5. Last but not least....have fun!
