Happy Love Day Everyone! In celebration of the big day, Syd and I made our own heart crayons.
We actually made these a few weeks ago but true to form I am a little slow posting the pics!
Simply peal the paper off of a bunch of old crayons. Sydney wanted to use all different colors but using just one or two would be cute too.
Then the best part...get out your meat hammer thingy and go to down smashing the crayons. Be sure to put wax paper over top the crayons so pieces don't go flying all over the room.
This is about how small you want the pieces....
Aren't they purrty?
After you finish smashing the crayons, take the bits and pieces and put them in a silicon mold of your choice. I got these heart silicon molds in the dollar section at target.
You really don't need to be super neat...so no perfectionists needed!
Preheat the oven to 225 degrees. Place baking sheet in the oven and watch closely. As in DON'T go far. I made the mistake of leaving mine in for 1 minute too long and I had a stinky mess at the bottom of my oven. I would say about 5 minutes and mine were good to go!
Pull baking sheet from oven and let cool completely. The great thing about silicone baking sheets are that they are flexible. Kids can easily bend the molds to pop the crayons out.
And there you have it! A simple way to let your kiddos be creative and celebrate Valentine's Day. These would be super cute for any holiday. Keep checking the bins at Target for St. Patrick's Day and Easter stuff. They always have silicone baking molds and now you have something to do with them.
